QBARS - v34n2 Eugene Chapter Awards Two Bronze Medals
Eugene Chapter Awards Two Bronze Medals
On the 14th of February, befitting the Valentine's Day commemoration, the Eugene Chapter of the ARS awarded Bronze Medals to two of its members. The first was presented to Ray E. James , a Charter Member of the ARS and wife of the late Del James, recipient of the Gold Medal for his work in hybrids and cultivation. Her years of work for the local chapter and the whole spectrum of rhododendron cultivation and knowledge were summarized in the wording on a placard also presented to her, which read as follows:
For her unceasing and ever rewarding efforts to advance continually the merits and joys of growing rhododendrons, and
For her multiple and yet consummate skills in the hybridization and cultivation of new varieties of rhododendrons, and
For her constant interest in the growth of Hendrick's Park, and
For her unpretentious wisdom and foresight in not only initiating, but in preserving correspondence of an inestimable value to the recording of the history of the Eugene Chapter of the ARS,
The Eugene Chapter awards the highest honor it can bestow - the Bronze Medal of the American Rhododendron Society
The second medal was presented to Amy Hitchcock , a long time member of our chapter, for her many years of work for our chapter in shows, plantings, sales, park tabulation, and just a whole host of duties that make a club successful, yet are not the 'limelight' jobs, along with a placard which read as follows:
For her continuing efforts to advance the merits and joys of growing rhododendrons, and
For her constructive criticism of and yet loving interest in the development and growth of Hendrick's Park, and
For her dedication to the success of the Eugene Chapter, and
For her monumental accomplishment in helping to compile a precise and exhaustingly detailed history of the Eugene Chapter, as well as obtaining the personal histories of some of its members,
The Eugene Chapter awards the highest honor it can bestow - The Bronze Medal of the American Rhododendron Society
A large turnout of their friends and fellow members gathered to extend personal congratulations to these two stalwarts of our association."
