In Memoriam

SPENCER E. SANDERS
Spencer E. Sanders, president of the Potomac Valley Chapter in 1975 and a landscape architect, died April 27 at the age of 78. He had been ill for several years. One of his major contributions to the chapter was his plan for a rhododendron garden at River Farm, originally a George Washington farm up the Potomac from Mt. Vernon. Sanders did landscape work at the White House and helped develop a master plan for the National Arboretum in Washington which has one of the country's largest collections of azaleas among its many plantings.

J.D. BUSH, M.D.
The Coosa Chapter of the ARS was deeply saddened by the passing of J.D. Bush, M.D., March 12, 1984. As the founder and president of the chapter, he had faithfully worked to promote interest in rhododendrons and in the organization. Besides his interest in rhododendrons he was well known for his beautiful roses and orchids. Dr. Bush had been retired seven years after practicing pathology for forty-three years in Gadsden. He was highly respected and loved by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed. His last moments in this world were spent planting some new azaleas.
