PORTLAND CHAPTER
Ernie Metcalfe
Recognition is given to a man who has faithfully served the Portland Chapter in his quiet but cheerful and willing ways. He has long been in charge of obtaining plants for auctions and door prizes. He has always been on hand to set up and take down shows. He has been a faithful worker in the chapter gardens. The hybridizers group has benefited from his enthusiasm and keen discernment of superior plant traits. Many members of the chapter have been recipients of his generosity in donating well grown plant specimens.
In grateful recognition of these and many other activities, this chapter is pleased to grant the Bronze Medal Award to Ernie Metcalfe, May 17, 1990.
Molly Smith
The Portland Chapter honors Molly Smith for her contributions to the chapter and especially for her role as gracious hostess at the Smith Garden. Because of Molly many people from out-of-state remember Portland Chapter and Smith Garden. Every visitor was made welcome with coffee and cookies from the endless supply in her freezer. She has been a true helpmate to Cecil in establishing the famous garden and maintaining it with deadheading and weeding. She continues to do so. She is the most faithful member of the work parties at the garden she loves.
This chapter is pleased to give its highest honor and recognition to Molly Smith, May 17, 1990.
SCOTTISH CHAPTER
Edmund A.T. Wright
The membership of the Scottish Rhododendron Society wishes to express their gratitude to Edmund A.T. Wright for his hard work both as a founder member and Director of the Society since its inception in February 1984.
Ed. Wright, as we all know him, performed the outstanding task of Progenitor, Secretary, Treasurer, Newsletter Editor, major exhibitor and catalyst for all the members who knew very little when they started, but were coaxed to greater things by his supreme efforts.
The Directors are therefore delighted to present him with the Scottish Rhododendron Society's highest award, the Bronze Medal of the American Rhododendron Society, our parent body. Given at Edinburgh this day of April 1990.
TUALATIN VALLEY CHAPTER
MaBelle McCornack
Since joining the Chapter in March 1972, MaBelle McCornack has been an avid cultivator of rhododendrons and an enthusiastic member. She has been for many years the Chapter Treasurer, keeping the records in excellent fashion and serving the needs of the Chapter promptly and efficiently. She has also been lead person in cashiering the Chapter sales including the annual sale held with the Tualatin Valley Garden Club. The growers all laud her prompt payment of funds due them from the sale. After several years of handling the judging responsibility, in 1989 she chaired the Chapter shows with great success.
For unfailing faithfulness in the handling of the Chapter's funds, her willingness to take on big jobs with enthusiasm and her keen interest in the genus Rhododendron , the Tualatin Valley Chapter takes pride in awarding the Bronze Medal to MaBelle McCornack, May 19, 1990.
Paul Taylor
Paul Taylor, and his wife Eline, joined the Tualatin Valley Chapter in December of 1977. Since that time he has held several offices including President, Vice President, Membership Committee Chairman and Laison with The Rhododendron Species Foundation, initiating our work day activity with that garden. His other activities have included the Study Group, the Jenkins Estate Garden, our annual plant sales with the Tualatin Valley Garden Club and our various shows. His follow-up on new member prospects has brought us many new and active members.
For his skilled organization of tasks, his studious interest in the genus Rhododendron and his enthusiasm for the work, the Tualatin Valley Chapter is privileged to award the Bronze Medal to Paul Taylor, May 19, 1990.
WILLAMETTE CHAPTER
Jason Ashford
The Willamette Chapter presents its highest award, the Bronze Medal, to Jason Ashford who has shared with energy and enthusiasm in many ways to the benefit of us all. As Chairman, knowledgeable exhibitor, judge and crew member, he has contributed in every capacity to many successful truss shows. Sharing his knowledge and experience he has enriched our programs with interesting talks. He has contributed to regional meetings and neighboring chapter programs and hosted a nationally televised tour of the Cecil and Molly Smith Garden of which we are all so proud.
As a member of the Cecil and Molly Smith Garden Committee he has represented our chapter giving countless hours as garden maintenance manager. In spite of summer heat and drought, winter ice, cold and toppled trees, visitors find a tranquil, blossoming garden each spring because he has given so generously of time, energy and knowledge.
We thank you and salute you, Jason Ashford on this 11 th day of April, 1990.
