Bronze Medal Awards
LEWIS COUNTY CHAPTER
Mrs. Will (Mildred) Gray
Lewis County Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society is honored to award the Bronze Medal to a charter member. Mildred Gray has seldom missed a meeting during the past 25 years. She has shared her intimate knowledge of all kinds of plants and trees. Visiting her garden is a pleasure. She has freely donated plants for Chapter activities, and a visitor seldom leaves her garden without a plant from it.
Mildred has been Treasurer of the Fort Borst Arboretum Society since its formation in 1961. She has been active in Lewis County Garden Clubs longer than most people can remember. She has judged innumerable flower and driftwood shows. Mildred has demonstrated an abiding interest in and love of all plants from the smallest wildflowers to the huge trees of the Pacific Northwest.
On behalf of the members of Lewis County Chapter, it is our pleasure to present our highest award, this Bronze Medal, to Mildred Gray on the 6th day of December 1990.
SOUTHEASTERN CHAPTER
Harold Crutcher
You have been a faithful member for many years, always willing to pitch in and help when called on. You have served as director and enlightened the membership as program speaker concerning the field of your expertise, the weather, and how it affects the care and maintenance of rhododendrons. You have contributed greatly to the success of every flower show in arranging for the location, tables and coverings and being a tireless worker from start to finish.
For these and your many other contributions, the Southeastern Chapter considers it a privilege to present to you its highest award, the Bronze Medal of the Society, December 16, 1990.
Fritz McCall
You have contributed to the Chapter's financial health by your involvement with our annual plant and cutting auction as host, as auctioneer par excellence, in growing on and contributing plants and in making the necessary arrangements for needed equipment. You have also served as director and treasurer in an exemplary fashion. You assisted over the years in the Chapter's annual flower show, especially in transporting and storing the Biltmore cream bottles which were used for many years to display the trusses.
In recognition of your contribution to the Chapter in these and many other ways over the years as a dedicated member, the Southeastern Chapter considers it a privilege to present to you its highest award, the Bronze Medal of the Society, December 16, 1990.
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CHAPTER
William Moynier
Bill Moynier's ancestors raised sheep on what is now Pacific Palisades, California. Sheep ranching in the Palisades has been crowded out by urban sprawl, but some of the shepherding instinct of this family remains in the person of Bill Moynier. One beneficiary has been the American Rhododendron Society, Southern California Chapter. Awarding a Bronze Medal to Bill for his services is in order:
Bill Moynier is our shepherd, we shall not want.
He provideth a place for our Chapter meetings (10 years at St. John's church).
He provideth a place for most of our Board meetings (the Moynier home).
His good wife, Betty, provideth food and refreshment for the hungry and mail-eth out the Newsletter.
He hath donated hundreds of seedlings and rooted cuttings to our plant tables.
He suffers all of us to lie down on the job while he setteth up the tables and chairs for our Chapter meetings (alone, if necessary).
He restoreth order after our meetings, and cleaneth up (alone, if necessary).
He guideth us into paths of righteousness.
Surely, goodness and light will prevail and we shall dwell in comfort, so long as Bill Moynier is willing. Amen.
WHIDBEY ISLAND CHAPTER
Jim Ramsey
The Whidbey Island Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society presents this award to Jim Ramsey in deep appreciation for his contribution to the formation of the Chapter and his enthusiastic involvement in its activities. Jim is a keystone to the Chapter, providing endless encouragement to its members and donating countless hours as a planner, worker, and promoter for the Chapter and the Meerkerk Rhododendron Gardens.
Since the Chapter was formed 5 years ago, Jim has served as Chapter President, Plant Sales Director, Registrar and Steering Committee member for the Regional Conference, District 2 Alternate Representative, Chapter board member, and chairman and member of numerous committees, as well as assisting in the production of our Chapter newsletter.
His own garden is an inspiration to rhododendron enthusiasts, reflecting his interests and organizational skills as well as being a thing of beauty. Jim's good humor and willingness to volunteer have enriched the Chapter and the lives of its members.
For all this, and more, we say thank you. We are proud and honored to present Jim with the Chapter's highest award for service, the Bronze Medal, as a token of our esteem. November 28, 1990.
