JARS v46n1 - In Memoriam: Jim Sinclair

In Memoriam: Jim Sinclair
Warren Berg
Port Ludlow, Washington

Jim Sinclair of Port Ludlow, Wash., was born and raised in Pennsylvania and spent five years as a flight engineer on B29s during World War II. After the war he became a successful contractor and developer.

He was a longtime member of both the ARS and the Rhododendron Species Foundation, accompanying his wife June as a "dragee" to the many rhododendron activities. He did a little hybridizing and was good at helping June in the garden, but his main interest was in meeting and developing friendships with the many people that he met. Many times new members would corner him, thinking he was the rhododendron expert in the family, and would get all kinds of free advice on how to grow rhododendrons. Jim was a very special kind of guy, a hard worker, sensitive and good natured, a really fine person. He will be greatly missed by all his many friends.
