JARS v57n1 - In Memoriam: Ambrose 'Amby' Schultz

In Memoriam: Ambrose "Amby" Schultz

Amby Schultz passed away Oct. 21, 2002. He was born Sept. 10, 1917, in Everett, Wash., graduated from Everett High and married his high school sweetheart, Pauline. He and Pauline operated Schultz Floral for twenty-seven years.

Amby became interested in rhododendrons and joined the Komo Kulshan Chapter. He soon became president but decided that Marysville needed a chapter of its own and started the Pilchuck Chapter in 1992, serving as president for two terms and editing the newsletter for several years. He was awarded the Bronze Medal for his service. Amby was involved in all the chapter shows, exhibits and the chapter's many tours.

Amby will be deeply missed, as he was always the life of the party with his great sense of humor. Amby knew us all. As each meeting got under way he would greet everyone by their fist name, and though his mild voice had to be amplified, he directed us in such a manner that Pilchuck Chapter became a success from the starting gun. He laid the foundation that we build on today.

Amby's wife, Pauline, is an honorary, life-time member of our chapter so that as the meetings, the events and the years go by at Pilchuck, we'll always be reminded where our inspiration came from. He has left us but is not forgotten. His memory will last all the days of Pilchuck Chapter.
