In Memoriam: Mace Miyasaki
Mace Miyasaki left us too early on February 24, 2005. Born in Baltimore, Mace graduated from the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and earned both Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in electrical engineering from Johns Hopkins University. His early career included working with sonar, studying clear air turbulence and doing environmental work at power plant sites in Maryland. He later worked in commercial and industrial real estate, and in 1990 he developed a process to change sludge waste in the bottoms of oil refinery tanks into a usable fuel. With his wife Bobbi, a private high school science teacher, they developed an interest in Rhododendron. He and Bobbi even developed a home tissue culture facility on their kitchen table.
In addition to being an active and Executive Committee member of the Mason-Dixon Chapter of the ARS, and participating on our Budget Committee, he served on the board of a local hospital, worked with the Baltimore-Kawasaki Sister City Committee and started the Baltimore-Kawasaki Boy Scout Exchange Program which continues today.
