Now that we are through this summer, the weather has not been friendly depending on where you live. Our plants will tell us how they liked the weather. Some like it hot, some wet, etc. In New Jersey, where I live, we have had one of the hottest summers on record, with very little rain. If I didn't have access to well water, I would see a high water bill. At your chapter meetings, the implications of a changing climate will be an excellent item to discuss.
The Western Regional Conference is coming up soon in Florence, Oregon, in October, and it should be a good one. The convention team of the Suislaw Chapter has been working hard to make this meeting a success. Even though there won't be rhododendrons in bloom, the area offers a lot to see and do. I encourage you to come to the conference and enjoy the weekend.
There is still time to take cuttings of your favorite plants. Many of the Eastern chapters have P4M's and fall plant sales. Some choice plants are available through these sources. Go to your chapter's meetings and buy some excellent plants.
Finally, membership! Chapter membership chairs have sent out ARS dues renewal notices. My suggestion is to send in your dues early so that you don't accidentally forget to renew your membership.
