JARS v64n4 - In Memoriam: Avril Wedemire

In Memoriam: Avril Wedemire

Avril (nee Smith) Wedemire passed away June 2, 2010, at the age of 61.
Wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend, and faithful follower of Christ, Avril embraced and demonstrated beauty in every aspect of her life. Throughout her childhood days in Burnaby and Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, during her years as a young wife, mother, and teacher in Maple Ridge, B.C., and in her retirement years, Avril displayed kindness at every turn. She loved many people, but none more than her husband and soul mate Garth and her children Joel and Kate who feel their loss profoundly.

Avril's love for family was one of the most significant aspects of her life; she went out of her way to express this, especially on birthdays and at Christmas. She had many friends, all of whom she treated with care and respect.

Known for her love of nature (her favorite rhododendron was 'Percy Wiseman'), her eye for detail, her culinary expertise, and her delight in the color blue, Avril was a treasure! She was sought after for her superb catering artistry - a gift she also offered in the organization of meals for the Cold Wet Weather Mat program. She was a ride-coordinator and driver for cancer patients, and served as a volunteer of extraordinary generosity with Pioneer Camps for four decades.

Avril was an amazing wife, a loving mother, and a stellar friend. We will all miss her immeasurably.
