Rhododendron pseudoyanthinum

Flowers
: Royal Purple, H.C.C. 834/2. Three to six in a truss.
Corolla
: 2½ to 3 inches across, flat, each lobe large, three upper lobes
spotted with dark brown. Scales on back of corolla.
Calyx and Petiole
: densely scaly.
Leaves
: dull green, 1½ inches wide, 3 inches long, scaly.
Grown from seed planted in 1946. Bloomed first 1951.
Grown and exhibited by Del James, Eugene, Oregon.
Rhododendron davidsonianum

Flowers
: Terminal buds have 10-12 flowers and azillary 24, pedicels scaly
½ inch long.
Calyx
very small, scaly.
Corolla
: 5-6 lobed, ¾ inch long, 1¾ inch wide. Color Persian Rose
(H.C.C. 628/1) with red spots on upper petals.
Stamens
: 10-12 exerted, uneven, pink.
Leaves
: Narrowly lanceolate to oblanceolate, tapering to
an acute and mucronate apex, base acute, cross section forming V from midrib to
margin, scales about 3 times their diameter apart above; their own diameter
apart below, petiole 1/5 inch long.

Corolla
: Open bell shape; 1¼ inches wide, 1 inch long. Color Imperial Purple
(H.C.C. 33/2 to 33/3). ¾-1¼ inch long, ½-¾ inch wide.
Leaves
: Broadly elliptic, rounded apex, ¾-1¼ inch long, ½-¾
inch wide. Leaves shiny dark green above, green below, scaly. Persistent,
alternate at ⅜ inch intervals along branches.
Grown and exhibited in A.R.S. Test Garden. Hybridized and raised by Ben F. Lancaster, Camas, Wash.

: 15 in compact truss.
Corolla
: Trumpet shaped. Color Currant Red (H.C.C. 821/1).
Petals
: 5 recurved, 2½ inches long.
Stamens
: 10; Pistil protruding.
Leaves
: 4 ⅜ inches long, 1⅞ inches wide. Upper leaf dark
green, lower non-pubescent light green.
Grown and exhibited by Robert Walker (Holgate Nursery, Portland, Oregon).

: Glaborous, red.

: Densely covered with brown glands.
Leaves
: 2¼ long, 1 inch wide. Dark green above, underside paler.

: 9-10.
Leaves
: 7-9 inches long, 3 inches wide.
Grown and exhibited by W. E. Whitney, Camas, Washington.

: 9 borne on rachis, approximately 1 inch long. Pedicels stout, 2 inches
long.
Corolla
: Funnel shaped, slightly ribbed, 4-4½ inches wide, 2½ inches long.
Color Dawn Pink #523/3 edged with China Rose, #024/2, with deeper China Rose #024/1
in corolla tube.
Corolla Lobes
: 5-6 slightly notched, 1½ inches wide.
Stamens
: 9-11, uneven length, 1½-2 inches long.
Style
: Curved at stigma.
Leaves
: Lanceolate, approximately 6 inches long, 1¾ inches wide at center,
prominently ribbed.

: 8-10 borne on a rachis approximately 1 inch long. Pedicels very stout,
1½ inches long.
Corolla
: Funnel shaped, slightly ribbed, 3½-4 inches wide, 2-2½ inches long.
Lobes 5-6. Color Rhodamine Pink, #527/3.
Corolla Lobes
: 5-6 notched, 1¼ inches wide.
Stamens
: 8-10, uneven length, 1-1½ inches long.
Style
: Curved.
Leaves
: Lanceolate, approximately 6 inches long, 1¾ inches wide at center.
Growth Habit
: Spreading.
Seeds planted in 1948. Plants bloomed in 1953 and 1954.
