Membership will be limited to library staff, editors, and their assistants involved in publishing or interested in publishing E-journals at Virginia Tech. Here we can discuss various ways of producing E-journals: ASCII vs. PostScript, formatting of journals, and share issues of other journals for discussion. With this list, I hope we can all keep each other up-to-date in terms of the progress on a particular title, as well as expose each other to new and better electronic processing and publishing methods. Everyone who receives this message is already subscribed. Feel free to encourage anyone thinking about publishing electronically to subscribe also. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ .........................James Powell......................... ___....____________......Systems Support and Development...... \ \../ ___ ___/.........University Libraries, VPI & SU.... .\ \/ /../ /.............Blacksburg, VA - (703) 231-4987... ..\ /../ /..............FAX (703) 231-3694................ ...\ /../ /................................................. ....\/../__/..........INTERNET.....JPOWELL@VTVM1.CC.VT.EDU.... ..........................(OR).....JPOWELL@VTTCF.CC.VT.EDU.... ========================================================================= Date: Mon, 27 Jan 1992 15:54:01 EST Reply-To: "Publishing E-Journals at Virginia Tech" <vpiej-l@vtvm1.bitnet> Sender: "Publishing E-Journals at Virginia Tech" <vpiej-l@vtvm1.bitnet> From: James Powell <jpowell@vtvm1.bitnet> Subject: E-Journal cover -------------- What does everyone think of the layout of the "title page" of E-Journal? It looks good on paper and maybe if it were smaller it would look better on the screen. I've seen some library systems with logos created from characters and some are quite nice. A couple even simulated a 3-D effect. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ .........................James Powell......................... ___....____________......Systems Support and Development...... \ \../ ___ ___/.........University Libraries, VPI & SU.... .\ \/ /../ /.............Blacksburg, VA - (703) 231-4987... ..\ /../ /..............FAX (703) 231-3694................ ...\ /../ /................................................. ....\/../__/..........INTERNET.....JPOWELL@VTVM1.CC.VT.EDU.... ..........................(OR).....JPOWELL@VTTCF.CC.VT.EDU.... ========================================================================= Date: Tue, 28 Jan 1992 08:58:52 -0500 Reply-To: "Publishing E-Journals at Virginia Tech" <vpiej-l@vtvm1.bitnet> Sender: "Publishing E-Journals at Virginia Tech" <vpiej-l@vtvm1.bitnet> From: "Lon K. Savage" <savage@vtvm1.bitnet> Subject: E-Journal cover *** Reply to note of 01/27/92 15:57 Scholarly Communications Project 1700 Pratt Drive; 961-4922 I think jazzing up the E-journal cover is a good idea generally, as it helps win over those wedded to the benefits of print. The E-JOURNAL cover, in particular, is a bit too big, I think, but on balance I like it. ========================================================================= Date: Tue, 28 Jan 1992 08:59:04 EST Reply-To: "Publishing E-Journals at Virginia Tech" <vpiej-l@vtvm1.bitnet> Sender: "Publishing E-Journals at Virginia Tech" <vpiej-l@vtvm1.bitnet> From: MSANDERS@VTVM1.BITNET Subject: Re: E-Journal cover In-Reply-To: Message of Mon, 27 Jan 1992 15:54:01 EST from <jpowell@vtvm1> I think the EJournal cover page looks ok. Perhaps ejournals/ will be the driving force for postscript based computers (as the NEXT is now) so that we could all enjoy real graphics instead of quasi-sprite graphics like those used on the EJournal cover. It reminds me of the artwork created on mainframe computer printouts a decade ago with X's and O's... Crude, but better than nothing at all... The listing of line number is helpful. ========================================================================= Date: Thu, 30 Jan 1992 09:01:27 EST Reply-To: "Publishing E-Journals at Virginia Tech" <vpiej-l@vtvm1.bitnet> Sender: "Publishing E-Journals at Virginia Tech" <vpiej-l@vtvm1.bitnet> From: James Powell <jpowell@vtvm1.bitnet> Subject: customized listserv welcome The customized listserv welcome message for the Catalyst electronic journal is now in place.
