Jennifer Arute is the Pamplin College of Business' Outstanding Senior.
The distinction which Arute has achieved is even more impressive given the fact that she nearly decided to enroll at another university. But, she visited Tech on a beautiful, sunny day, immediately fell in love with the campus, and quickly changed her mind about attending.
Arute's academic achievements at Tech include being on the Dean's List every semester and being a member of many honor societies, including Phi Eta Sigma, Golden Key, Phi Kappa Phi, Mortar Board, Beta Gamma Sigma, and Mu Kappa Tau. She is the recipient of the 1994-95 William M. Hahn Memorial Scholarship and the 1994-95 Virginia Tech Faculty Women's Club Scholarship.
Arute is very active on campus as well. She was president of Kappa Delta sorority, has been active in the Hokie Camp, is active with the Class of '95's activities, is involved in the Training Apprenticeship Program for Student Government, is a member of her college's Commencement Committee, and is involved with Women in Communications Inc. She has also coordinated the GE Leadership Conference,
While at Tech, Arute says she has been encouraged by each of her professors. When asked what she has gained from her college experience Arute said, "I learned about myself. I learned I had the ability to handle situations."
Arute was active in high school but never was the leader of any group. She started her college career as a follower and is ending it a leader. "When you're leading you're not always the one doing the talking," says Arute. "You need to let go and delegate. Delegation is really what leadership is all about."
Arute plans to gain work experience as a Marketing 500 account executive for a major professional sports organization before earning her MBA.
