- OBIT ALTIZER, BELVA HELEN AKERS 76, OF RICHLANDS DIED MONDAY EVENING FEBRUARY 17, 1997 IN A TAZEWELL HOSPITAL. BORN JUNE 9, 1920 IN NEW BERN, VA, SHE WAS THE DAUGHTER OF THE LATE ALBERT STANLEY AKERS AND MYRTLE SARAH BOND AKERS. SHE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER HUSBAND, HUBERT BROOKS ALTIZER, ONE SON, HUBERT KEITH ALTIZER, ONE SISTER, THELMA AKERS ELSWICK, AND TWO BROTHERS, MERLE AKERS AND LATHA AKERS. SHE IS SURVIVED BY THREE SONS, JOHN ALTIZER OF RICHLANDS, ROBERT B. ALTIZER OF TAZEWELL, AND JAMES F. ALTIZER OF CHESTER. ALSO SURVIVING ARE TWO DAUGHTERS, MRS. CARL E. (MARY SUE) NEWSOME OF PULASKI; AND MS.JANICE HUMPHREY OF CEDAR PLUFF, VA. TWELVE GRANDCHILDREN AND FIVE GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN. FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE CONDUCTED AT THE HURST-SCOTT FUNERAL HOME IN RICHLANDS AT 11 A.M., THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 1997. INTERMENT WILL FOLLOW AT THE CLINCH VALLEY MEMORIAL CEMETERY, RICHLANDS. THE FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS AT THE FUNERAL HOME ON WEDNESDAY EVENING FROM 6 TO 9 P.M.. ARRANGEMENTS BY HURST-SCOTT FUNERAL HOME, RICHLANDS. AMMEN, J. NEVILLE JR., 81, OF ROANOKE, DIED MONDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 1997, IN THE VIRGINIA VETERANS CARE CENTER. HE WAS A GRADUATE OF HAMPDEN SYDNEY COLLEGE, A VETERAN OF WORLD WAR II AND A RECIPIENT OF THE NAVY CROSS. MR. AMMEN WAS A RETIRED BUSINESSMAN, AND AN ELDER AND CHOIR MEMBER OF RALEIGH COURT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. HE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY A SISTER, RACHEL A. YOUNG. SURVIVING ARE HIS WIFE OF 55 YEARS, BILLIE TINSLEY AMMEN; TWO SONS AND DAUGHTERS-IN-LAW, JAY AND KAREN AMMEN, ROANOKE, TIP AND MONICA AMMEN, CORONADO, CALIF.; DAUGHTER, CASSY AMMEN, ALEXANDRIA; BROTHER AND SISTER-IN-LAW, WILLIAM G. AND HELEN AMMEN, ROANOKE; EIGHT GRANDCHILDREN. A BROTHER-IN-LAW, BRAXTON YOUNG OF SALISBURY, N.C. MEMORIAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT RALEIGH COURT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 11 A.M., THURSDAY, WITH DR. F. TUPPER GARDEN OFFICIATING. PRIVATE INTERMENT WILL BE HELD FOR THE FAMILY. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, THE FAMILY SUGGESTS MEMORIALS BE MADE TO RELEIGH COURT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. FRIENDS MAY CALL FROM 3 TO 5 P.M. WEDNESDAY AT OAKEY'S SOUTH CHAPEL.
