Cold Damage in the Eugene, Oregon Area

We had very little leaf and stem damage on any of the plants. I have as yet seen no bark splitting on the rhododendrons although I have seen some on the evergreen azaleas. I was quite surprised at the damage, however, upon cutting the buds, as most of them looked good on the outside.

We had very little wind during the cold, although it went down to 8° F, which may have accounted for the lack of foliage burn. Generally the plants in this area look good although I imagine many people will be surprised at the amount of bud damage.

We have had unusually warm, dry weather here for the past three weeks, (written 3/18/65) although it froze last night and ruined most everything that was in bloom.
