The Azalea Chapter will host the District 10, Southeastern Regional Conference at the Hilton Hotel, Peachtree Corners, on the weekend of Oct. 30 - Nov. 1. The hotel, located in the Norcross area, is 30 miles from the Atlanta Airport. A short distance outside the northern arc of the 285 Atlanta Perimeter Highway, it is easily accessible from both 285 and I-85. Homeplace Garden and Transplant Nursery are less than an hour's drive away, as are numerous private gardens belonging to Azalea Chapter members. Conference 'Dragees' will find a wide selection of shops at nearby Gwinnett Place Mall.
Fall is a delightful time to visit north Georgia. The weather is usually cool and crisp and the autumn color is spectacular - perfect for enjoying our two planned pre-convention tours. The first takes us to the Georgia mountains and will feature a visit to the Fred Hamilton Rhododendron Garden on the slopes of Lake Chatuge. The second, a tour of Atlanta, will include stops at the Atlanta Botanical Garden, with its nationally acclaimed Dorothy Fuqua Conservatory, and the Atlanta History Center, where the Azalea Chapter's Frank A. Smith Garden is located. Our program will include outstanding amateur and professional rhododendron and azalea growers, well-known hybridizers and enthusiastic plant explorers. Experts will introduce us to bulbs, wildflowers, perennials and companion shrubs, both old and new, that can enhance the appearance of our gardens and intensify our enjoyment of them. There will also be opportunities to investigate the latest methods and materials that are available to keep our plants free of unwelcome pests and diseases. Whether you are a rhodoholic, or are just along for the ride, we promise you a weekend of fun, feasting and good fellowship. Please come and join us!
