Western Regional Conference, Oct. 7-9

"Why rhododendrons?" my friends always ask about the 800 plus rhododendrons that I have planted in my 1.5-acre yard over the past five years. Usually I go into a detailed explanation about the variety of flowers, rhododendrons' forgiving nature, the long flowering season, etc., etc. This year I have decided on a simpler solution. I am extending an invitation: "Why don't you come to the ARS Western Regional Conference this year? It is being held at the Lynnwood Embassy Suites Hotel, October 7, 8 and 9, 1994. In addition to impressive programs on photography, hybridizing, winter and water gardens, and using rhododendrons as bonsai, there will be a photography contest, an extensive book, plant and gift sale for flower enthusiasts, tasty Northwest cuisine, lively entertainment and tours. The highlight of the conference may well be the tour of Terry Welch's spacious Woodinville garden which blends elements of a traditional Japanese garden, Pacific Northwest woodlands and an English-inspired, park-like expanse with elegance and simplicity. Just for the fun of it, there will also be a tour of Woodinville's Ste. Michelle Winery which culminates with a tasting of some of the Pacific Northwest's most famous wines in the cozy chateau on the delightful winery grounds."
That invitation sounds like something I can't pass up either. So here's hoping we see friends from near and far at the ARS Western Regional Conference this year in Washington!
