hospitality for meetings, serving on the Board of Directors and as vice president, president and
past president. For these and many other contributions in support of our chapter, we gratefully
present this award. June 2008.
Bronze Medal: Jane McKay
The Middle Atlantic Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society presents to Jane McKay this Bronze
Medal Award in recognition of your many contributions to our chapter, including your services as a
valuable member of the Board of Directors, your hard work as membership chairman for the last nine
years, your very regular columns in the chapter newsletter for the last thirteen years, and for
moving your primary ARS membership to our chapter. For these and many other contributions in support
of our chapter, we gratefully present our chapter's highest honor. October 25, 2008.
NANAIMO CHAPTER
Bronze Medal: Chris Southwick
The Nanaimo Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society takes great pleasure in awarding its
highest honour, the Bronze Medal, to Chris Southwick. Chris has been a key member and cornerstone
of our club for many years. A long-term member of the Society, she has served as president,
vice-president, secretary and director. She chaired many committees while being part of the club's
executive year after year. She has chaired the program committee and brought many distinguished
speakers to the meetings. Chris has enthusiastically helped organize the annual truss show and plant
sale as well as displays at local garden shows and our bus tours. Her generosity with her time
and knowledge has been an inspiration to all. Chris' willingness to assist in all aspects of the NRS
has been an inspiration to all. Her knowledge of rhododendrons is exceptional. It is with great pleasure
that we present Chris Southwick with the Bronze Medal, the highest honour a chapter in the American
Rhododendron Society can award.
Bronze Medal: John Deniseger
John is awarded the Bronze Medal for his dedication to the NRS. John has been a member of the executive
for the past thirteen years and has served on many committees. In addition to other duties, John has
organized our annual bus tour since its inception in the early nineties, he and his wife, June, took
care of the raffle table for many years and John has always been an integral part of our annual truss
show and plant sale. It is therefore with pride we award John our highest honour the Bronze Medal.
NORTH ISLAND CHAPTER
Bronze Medal: Evelyn Wright
At the September 2008 meeting of the North Island Rhododendron Society, Evelyn Wright received the Bronze Medal,
the chapter's highest award. A long-time member of the Society, Evelyn at most socials is pouring the coffee,
and supplying the goodies. Should she be missing, she can probably be found in the kitchen. She is always a
willing worker on garden tours and plant sales.
WHIDBEY ISLAND CHAPTER
Bronze Medal: Bob Turner
The Whidbey Island Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society presents this Bronze Medal to Bob Turner.
Bob has performed a vital task for the chapter for more than ten years! He is the man who gets those
bargain raffle tickets into the hands of the membership at each meeting. Bob diligently attends the
chapter meetings and diplomatically motivates members to buy a raffle ticket or suggests a visit to the
dollar table. Each dollar he is able to talk us out of helps pad our budget to provide little "extras"
for the membership. In grateful appreciation this chapter is pleased to award this Bronze Medal to Bob
Turner this 22nd day of October 2008.
Bronze Medal: Ann Lee
The Whidbey Island Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society presents this Bronze Medal to Ann Lee.
Ann has served our chapter in a very unique way. For the past eight years she has faithfully arrived
45 minutes early to each meeting to start the coffee and hot water perking and made sure trays of
cookies arrive for our pre-meeting socializing. Then she stays after the meeting to tidy the meeting
room and lockup so that we continue to be welcomed at the meeting hall. Ann also arrives early for
our April Potluck and November Pie Social to organize the table preparations for a bounty of food and
fellowship. Ann has also spent many hours sorting through and organizing the library at Meerkerk
Rhododendron Gardens so that we can browse and borrow books on rhododendrons and several other plant
and gardening subjects with ease. In grateful appreciation this chapter is pleased to award this
Bronze Medal to Ann Lee this 22nd day of October, 2008.
