Assistant secretary of commerce to speak
Spectrum Volume 17 Issue 07 - October 6, 1994
The Northern Virginia Graduate Center will host a speaker from the Clinton Administration on Thursday, Oct. 13.
Graham R. Mitchell, assistant secretary of technology policy in the U.S. Department of Commerce, will be the guest speaker at Michael Badawy's Strategic Management class.
Mitchell is responsible to the under secretary of technology for developing policies to increase the role of technology in enhancing the economic well-being and competitiveness of the United States.
The topic of Mitchell's presentation is "New Directions in Technology Policy and Management Technology." The theme of the presentation is that technological innovation cannot be achieved without corporate management devoting enormous investment and energies in developing linkages between science, engineering, and management.
Mitchell will present both macro and micro perspectives. On the macro level, he will explore new directions in technology policy and current initiatives undertaken by the Clinton administration. On the micro side he will discuss developing an understanding of the role of corporate management in the strategic management of technology.
The function is open to the entire university. A reception, planned in conjunction with the event, will start at 6:30 p.m. The Northern Virginia Graduate Center is located at 2990 Telestar Court in Falls Church.
