Provost search committee meets

Spectrum Volume 17 Issue 08 - October 13, 1994

The search committee for the senior vice president and provost met on October 6 to continue refining the pool of applicants and to consider recent nominations and applications.

Additional information provided in candidate statements and reference letters was discussed by the screening subcommittee and reviewed by the full search committee. Some applicants were dropped from the short-list and several new applicants were added. More than 145 nominations and applications have been considered by the committee.

The subcommittees for off-campus and on-campus interviews are developing interview formats and schedules. The next meeting of the full search committee will be held on October 20 to review the recommendations of the subcommittees and further refine the short-list of candidates.

Since the beginning of the search, letters to the faculty, notices in Spectrum , and requests to the presidents of the college faculty associations have been used to solicit nominations from the university community. Although nominations can be made until the search for the senior vice president and provost is completed, the work of the committee will be expedited if any further nominations from the campus community are received by October 17 in the form of a nomination letter to: Senior Vice President and Provost Search Committee Office, 321 Burruss Hall, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, Virginia, 24061-0167.
