Public Service Commission sets goals for coming year
By Bill BurlesonSpectrum Volume 17 Issue 11 - November 3, 1994
The Commission on Public Service and Extension hopes to present the first Academy of Public Service Excellence Award at the university's Founders Day ceremony in April.
The award, and investigating the expansion of the roles of local Extension offices around the state, are the two main goals set by commission members. The latter may not be possible but the commission membership feels the possibility of offering more services through the local offices is worth the effort.
Members also heard that their four main committees--Outreach Promotion and Rewards, Coordination of Total Outreach Efforts, Activities and Programs, and the Academy of Public Service Implementation--were completing the organization process and beginning to settle into their tasks.
The mission of each committee is:
Outreach Promotion and Rewards--Promote outreach activities and efforts as an integral component of faculty activity in the university; promote increased recognition for outreach activities and efforts in the university reward system; and monitor progress in such efforts and recognition.
Coordination of Total Outreach Efforts--Study and review the coordination of Cooperative Extension and other outreach efforts of the university, both on and off campus, in an effort to avoid repetition of program effort and expenditure.
International Activities and Programs Committee--Study and review the Self-Study Report on International Programs; study and review the Report of the Task Force on International Programs; study and review international programs at the European Studies Center and other off-campus locations; recommend directions for enhanced international activities and programs of the university.
Academy of Public Service Excellence Implementation Committee--Assure implementation of the commission's plans for the Academy of Public Service Excellence during the 1993-94 Academic Year; work with the vice provost in assuring funding for the academy.
The mission of the Commission on Public Service and Extension shall be to study, formulate, and recommend to University Council policies and procedures concerning all areas of university outreach, including international activities and programs.
