LABORATORY SPECIALIST, ADVANCED (1104P) Biology Normal Starting Pay: $26,800 (Grade 11)
Organizes, develops and implements the laboratory portion of the general microbiology course. Assists faculty members in teaching and improving advanced lab exercises for microbiology, immunology, and molecular biology lab classes. Curates the microbiology culture collection; prepares and manages the teaching budget. Manages facilities, equipment, and supplies for lab classes. Supervises the work of prep-room laboratory specialists. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BS degree in biology, microbiology, or related field or equivalent level of education and experience. Experience in a biology or clinical laboratory; experience providing training/instruction and directing the work of others. Strong organizational skills. Computer skills to include word processing and data management systems. WITH PREFERENCE GIVEN FOR: MS degree in biology, microbiology or related area; experience with maintenance and repair of scientific equipment. FULL-TIME POSITION. Application deadline: Jan. 20.
LABORATORY SPECIALIST SENIOR (3129R) Dairy Science/Forage Testing Lab Normal Starting Pay: $22,426 (Grade 9)
Analyzes forage samples for protein and detergent fiber using standard wet- chemistry procedures. Weighs samples and mixes solutions for wet-chemistry analyses. Supervises mineral analyses and collection of funds. Supervises lab in absence of lab manager. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Degree or equivalent training and experience in agricultural or biological sciences or related area; working knowledge of biological and agricultural sciences as it applies to nutrition and feeding of livestock; experience with personal computers; ability to instruct lab personnel; good interpersonal and communication skills. WITH PREFERENCE GIVEN FOR: Experience in a forage testing or animal nutrition lab. FULL-TIME POSITION. Position ends 12-95, may be extended. Application deadline: Jan. 27.
LABORATORY TECHNICIAN SENIOR (4566P) University Center for Environmental and Hazardous Materials Studies Normal Starting Pay: $15,703 (Grade 5)
Sets up and maintains acute and chronic bioassays using various organisms. Performs testing of oil bioremediation products using saltwater organisms. Monitors conductivity, hardness, alkalinity, temperature, pH, DO, and salinity of effluent and water samples. Implements quality assurance/quality control procedures for all laboratory protocols as required for NPDES permitting and by the USEPA. Collects field samples including water, effluent, sediments, and aquatic organisms (insects, clams, mussels). MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working with laboratory equipment and following laboratory protocols. Demonstrated skill in water-chemistry analysis and performing acute and chronic toxicity testing in an aquatic environment. Demonstrated knowledge of field sampling techniques and laboratory quality-assurance/quality-control procedures. Ability to document and analyze results. WITH PREFERENCE GIVEN FOR: Course work in ecology, chemistry, biological statistics or related area; laboratory/field experience in related research program area. FULL-TIME POSITION. RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGIST (2133R) Student Health Services Normal Starting Pay: $18,765 (Grade 7)
Takes and develops radiographs; insures proper filing and storage; assists consulting radiologist; and distributes x-ray reports to staff. Insures that prescribed safety standards are maintained and supervises technicians. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an approved program in radiologic technology and current certification as a Radiologic Technologist; work experience as a Radiologic Technologist.
