Tom Kaloupek has been named the university's director of materials management. He comes to Virginia Tech from Fairfax, where he has worked in a similar capacity for George Mason since November 1991.
Prior to his work at George Mason, Kaloupek was in the U.S. Navy Supply Corps for 21 years, retiring with the rank of commander. He served in locations including London, England; Rota, Spain; Washington, D.C.; Athens, Ga., and Virginia Beach.
Kaloupek holds a bachelor's degree in business from Miami University and a master's degree in business from Michigan State.
While at George Mason, Kaloupek has been a leader for numerous large contracting efforts, including the communications infrastructure, campus-wide food service, residence facility management, and bookstore operations.
He has been active in the Higher Education Decentralization Program and assisted with the Governor's Strikeforce Privatization Subcommittee. He was an active participant in the Va. Economic Bridge Initiative, a joint Virginia Tech/George Mason project.
