Hector Rodriguez-Davila of Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, has earned a Commonwealth Fellowship to study mechanical engineering at Virginia Tech.

Commonwealth Fellowships are awarded to outstanding minority-group doctoral students by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.

Rodriguez-Davila, who has been at Virginia Tech since 1993, will do his doctoral work in the field of vibrations and acoustics. His bachelor of science degree is in civil engineering from the University of Puerto Rico. His goal is to become a college professor, an interest he discovered while working as a tutor as an undergraduate.

Rodriguez-Davila is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Colegio de Ingenieros y Agrimensores de Puerto Rico.
