Applicants who have access to the Internet may review current available positions by pointing a gopher client to personnel.ps.vt.edu . Users of Virginia Tech's mainframe may access the same information through the Administrative Information System. Vacancies are also listed with the Virginia Employment Commission, the statewide RECRUIT system, on bulletin boards located in the Litton-Reaves Building (Animal Sciences), Newman Library, the Maintenance Building, Burruss Hall and in the Personnel Services office. These listings are updated each Monday morning for the vacancies closing on Friday.

Each Monday, beginning at noon, staff members from Personnel Services conduct a one-hour seminar to assist applicants in applying for positions at the university. If you are interested in attending the Applicant Information Seminar, please contact the Personnel Service office at 231-5301. If you are unable to attend the seminar, please visit the Personnel Services office at Southgate Center to use a self-paced computer-based module that provides the same information covered in the seminar.

FOOD OPERATIONS ASSISTANT A (FOA-2R) Culinary Services. Normal Starting pay: (Effective 12-1-95) $5.41 (Grade 1). An applicant pool is now being established to fill wage food operations assistant A positions. These vacancies include temporary, full-time, and part-time work. Shifts vary and may include day, evening, night, and weekend hours; and may include some overtime and call-in work. Non-student WAGE food operations assistant A vacancies for Culinary Services will be filled from this pool. The vacancies are seasonal and run from August to May. Wage employees are restricted to working a maximum of 1,500 hours in a 365-day period from date of hire. While search emphasis will be placed at the assistant-professor level, candidates who already have demonstrated success early in their academic careers and who would qualify for promotion to the rank of associate professor will be considered as well. All faculty members in the department are expected to have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching as well as to specialized graduate training, sponsored research, and scholarly work. Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. in structural engineering or a closely related field. The successful candidate will teach courses and develop a research program in one or more of the following areas: concrete design, bridges, earthquake engineering, or advanced analysis. NON-INSTRUCTIONAL

PHYSICAL PLANT. Director of Physical Plant . The director is one of three department heads reporting to the assistant vice president for facilities and will be responsible for a work force of 300 employees and an operating budget of $10 million. This position is responsible for all building maintenance, operations, preventive maintenance, and emergency services; both in-house and contract custodial operations; grounds and landscaping services; facility engineering; contract administration; customer-service operations; and renovation design and construction for the Blacksburg campus and 14 agricultural research stations throughout the commonwealth. The successful candidate will have an established record of progressively responsible positions; demonstrated strong leadership, management, and organizational abilities; excellent written and oral communication skills; be a self-starter with a demonstrated ability in identifying and implementing creative solutions to complex problems; excellent financial-management skills and an ability to operate successfully in a reduced-resources environment; and demonstrated performance in establishing and maintaining productive and collaborative relationships with a full range of campus and external constituents. A strong customer-service commitment is an absolute requirement. Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree in engineering or related field along with a minimum of eight years of progressively responsible facilities-management experience of which at least four years must be at a senior administrative level in a complex facilities organization at a college or university. A master's degree and professional registration are highly desirable. This is an administrative faculty position with full state benefits. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. CENTER FOR ORGANIZATION PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT. Senior Research Associate/Managing Partner. Partners make educational and/or research-based performance-improvement interventions within sponsor organizations. Partners also design, develop, and deliver presentations and workshops on quality and productivity management, organizational change, performance measurement and evaluation, management of participation, and strategic planning. Interventions may involve repeated contacts with the same sponsor over time, and require developing long-term relationships to design, develop, implement, evaluate, and modify strategic-improvement efforts. Position entails collaborating to define and produce deliverables for customers; leading performance improvement projects and facilitating group processes; writing proposals and publications; marketing Performance Center services; and recognizing potential for further development with existing sponsors. Advanced degree required. Minimum of 10 years experience in senior management within industrial engineering, organizational development, organizational behavior, or related fields desired. Candidates must be willing to travel nationally (frequently) and internationally (occasionally); have excellent platform and technical writing skills; be familiar with state-of-the-art management practice and theory; and have strong structured group process-facilitation skills.
