FACULTY JOBS

INSTRUCTIONAL

DEPARTMENT OF INDUSTRIAL AND SYSTEMS ENGINEERING. Full Professor.

Anticipated full professor position, tenure track. Available in August 1996. Position is in the area of human-factors engineering and/or management systems engineering and will be filled by an individual having a strong record of scholarly publications, external research funding, and outstanding teaching capability. Preferably, applicants should show evidence of expertise in both human-factors and management-systems engineering. This appointment requires a Ph.D. degree, with preference for an individual with at least one IE degree (or equivalent experience). Demonstrated teaching excellence is expected and a strong funded research record is a prerequisite for this senior-level position. The vice provost for academic affairs is the chief deputy to the provost with wide-ranging responsibilities in support of the provost. The vice provost will provide leadership in enhancing the teaching and learning environment of our state-wide university. In addition, the vice provost will provide administrative expertise and advice to the provost in the management of the academic responsibilities of the university. Specific administrative duties may include, but will not be limited to, management of strategic enrollment services; faculty development; academic support units; oversight and coordination of the Provost's Office; and other duties as assigned. The successful candidate will have clear commitment to personal and professional ethics; appropriate credentials in teaching and research for appointment as full professor with tenure in an academic department; demonstrated leadership skills in a rapidly changing teaching and learning environment; proven success in the coordination and oversight of complex administrative functions; demonstrated commitment to student and faculty diversity issues; and understanding of a commitment to the mission of a land-grant university. DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE, INSURANCE, AND BUSINESS LAW. Department Head (Internal Search).

The department head has primary administrative responsibility for all personnel, budget, program, equipment, and facility matters related to the academic department. The individual also is the department's academic leader and is responsible for the character and quality of the department's academic programs and the department's vision of the future. As an academic leader, the head is responsible for understanding and discussing with the faculty and students current issues and directions of the discipline or profession. The individual is responsible to the faculty of the department and the dean of the college. In this capacity, he/she serves as an explicator and advocate for the department and also is responsible for understanding and explaining university and college goals, objectives, decisions, and circumstances. The head consults with faculty members and seeks input on major issues and decisions affecting the academic life of the department. The department head conducts an annual evaluation of faculty accomplishment and reports this to the dean. The head solicits documentation on faculty accomplishment through the faculty annual activity report. The head also solicits information on faculty accomplishment from persons outside the department including at least the college associate deans and college committee chairs. The head recommends to the dean faculty merit salary adjustments. The department head serves for a fixed-length term, specified by the university. The procedures for renewal are decided by the departmental faculty in consultation with the college dean, taking into account any cycle of periodic departmental review that also may be in the college's procedures.
