A Virginia Tech student, Daniel J. Kelly, of Timonium, Md., was killed by a motorist on Southgate Drive near Tech Center Drive on the Virginia Tech campus Saturday night.

Virginia Tech police said Kelly and another student were walking along Southgate Drive about 9:45 p.m. after their vehicle had run out of gas near Southgate and U.S. 460. Kelly was struck by a vehicle driven by Evelyn N. Williams of Blacksburg. He was pronounced dead at Montgomery Regional Hospital. Williams reportedly was charged with DUI in connection with the accident.

University Dean of Students Cathryn Goree said funeral services will be held in Maryland, but a memorial service would be held this week on campus under the auspices of the Newman Catholic Ministry. Kelly was a sophomore majoring in computer engineering.
