Water Center announces program for research support
Spectrum Volume 19 Issue 18 - January 30, 1997
The Virginia Water Resources Research Center, housed at Virginia Tech, is part of the national program of Water Research Institutes administered by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). During the last session, Congress re-authorized the program and included a significant new opportunity for university faculty members to secure research support.
This opportunity allows a researcher, or research team, to directly negotiate with any federal agency for funding of a water-resources-related research project. Once the agreement on project scope and budget is reached, the funds can be transferred from the agency to the USGS. These funds then move from USGS, through the Water Center, to the principal investigator.
The Virginia Water Center at Virginia Tech has set up a program of "Ten Steps for Research Contracting through USGS Office of External Research and the Virginia Water Center at Virginia Tech."
