Davies resolution passes
By John Ashby
Spectrum Volume 19 Issue 31 - May 22, 1997
At the final Faculty Senate meeting of the academic year, senators discussed and passed a resolution of appreciation for the work done by Gordon Davies, former director of the State Council of Higher Education.
The resolution reads as follows:
Whereas Gordon K. Davies, while serving as the director of the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia for 20 years, provided significant leadership for building a strong support system for higher education in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and
Whereas Dr. Davies provided a non-partisan, objective, expert, and highly credible voice speaking on behalf of the colleges and universities in the commonwealth, and
Whereas Dr. Davies always sought to maintain high standards for the State Council and for all of the colleges and universities in the commonwealth by making them models of effectiveness and efficiency, and
Whereas Dr. Davies often served as a bridge between the colleges and universities and an ever-changing social and economic environment as he provided visionary leadership to prepare higher education in the commonwealth for the Twenty First Century,
Be if therefore resolved that the Faculty Senate of Virginia Tech expresses its appreciation to Gordon K. Davies for his years of dedicated service as a strong and effective advocate for higher education in Virginia and thanks him for a job well done.
