Department of Family and Child Development. Assistant or Associate Professor. Located at the Northern Virginia Center in Falls Church. Position begins Aug. 16, 1998 and is a nine-month, tenure-track one. Resource-development program offers master of science and doctor of philosophy degrees to largely part-time students who are working professionals in corporations and associations, and in consulting, military, and government positions. The program has more than 130 active students. The curriculum places heavy emphasis on experiential and problem-focused learning and reflective practice, capitalizing on using one's workplace as a laboratory for learning. Responsibilities include: teaching graduate-level courses; recruiting and advising students; directing theses and dissertations; conducting and publishing research; and participating in professional service activities. Requires earned doctorate in adult learning, human-resource development, or related field, strong research skills, teaching experience, and practical field experience in facilitating learning with adults. Experience in teaching graduate-level courses, gaining funding for and conducting research projects, computer-technology skills, involvement in professional associations, and relevant publications desired. The Center for Interdisciplinary Studies (CIS). Assistant Professor. Entry-level, tenure-track position beginning August 1998 with a special focus on comparative religious ethics and religion and the modern world (pending final approval in January 1998). Established in 1995, CIS brings together interdisciplinary programs in black studies, humanities, Judaic studies, religious studies, science and society, and women's studies. CIS seeks a scholar with disciplinary and interdisciplinary training who can contribute to the teaching and research interests of more than one of the programs within CIS. Department of Mathematics. Senior Faculty Positions (associate or full). In the area of numerical analysis with emphasis on computational methods for partial differential equations. Successful candidates must posses a strong continuing record of internationally recognized research in computational mathematics and applications. A proven record of academic leadership, demonstrated by the candidate's dedication to excellence in research, teaching, graduate-student advising, and postgraduate supervision, is desirable. VTIC provides scientific, technical, and business information to businesses and individuals. Position reports to the center director. Responsibilities include: completing client projects by using a wide variety of resources including on-line databases, secondary-market research reports, print materials, and non-traditional information resources; completing projects in the clients' specified time frames and budget; maintaining good customer relations with VTIC's clients; assisting with technical and scientific research; participating as a full team member in furthering the goals of the center.
