Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise. Assistant Professor (two positions). One position is in clinical nutrition and the other is in nutrition science. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses; advise undergraduate students and direct thesis and dissertation research; and participate in professional service and outreach. Evidence of potential for developing a research program that supports department goals and is competitive for external funding is expected. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively and collaborate with others both within and outside the department in the development of teaching, research, and outreach programs. The clinical nutrition candidate will be expected to teach courses in normal nutrition, medical nutrition therapy, and disease intervention and will have responsibility for developing nutrition protocol for the department-supported community exercise and health intervention program. The nutrition-science candidate will be expected to teach courses in normal, life cycle, metabolic, or sports nutrition. Preference will be given to those candidates whose research interests support the department initiative in human metabolic studies directed toward human-nutrition requirements and metabolism as related to vitamins and minerals, sports, nutrition, or molecular biology. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in nutrition or closely related area; strong training in the basic sciences and experience with human subjects and human metabolic studies are highly desirable; clinical experience and RD status are highly desirable for the clinical nutrition position. Office of Family Support. Director. The Office of Family Support provides a comprehensive resource and referral service to university employees and students to support family, child, and adult-care needs. The primary purposes of the office are to assist employees and students in identifying child and adult-care services available in the community; to expand and strengthen available services through consultation, training, and development of care givers and other community programs; and to provide education and awareness programs related to family issues and resources. Reporting to the Department of Personnel Services, the director is responsible for managing the Office of Family Support, including overseeing daily administration of the office and its services; assessing family-support needs of university employees and students; developing short-and long-range plans to meet those needs; and serving as liaison with the community providers of family support services. Position requires a minimum of a master's degree in family and child development or related area; experience developing, conducting, and coordinating educational and outreach programs for employees, families, and care givers; management and budgeting experience; knowledge of community resources and services related to family support needs and demonstrated ability to identify and develop new community resources; ability to communicate and work effectively with faculty and staff members, students, care givers, and representatives of diverse community groups and agencies. Virginia Cooperative Extension. 4-H Extension Agent. Extension agents hold a lecturer rank, non-tenure-track, professional faculty position. A master's degree is required. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Position #FA873, 4-H agent in Rockingham County (restricted, one-year appointment): Manage a non-formal experiential educational program for youth, and adults working with those youth to further develop life skills necessary as self-directing, productive, and contributing members of society. Agent must determine program needs by monitoring trends and issues, involving Extension leadership councils and advisory committees; design programs to meet needs of target audiences, specify program goals and objectives, and identify resources; inform clientele of program activities; use appropriate technologies to plan and deliver programs through workshops, seminars, conferences, one-on-one visits, on-farm demonstrations, field trips, and tours; maintain knowledge of current research information; develop computer applications; develop and implement evaluation plans; recruit and use volunteers; and report results to clientele, public, and administration. Master's degree or imminent in related discipline is required. Current Virginia Cooperative Extension faculty members with bachelor's degree may be considered based on specialty, expertise, and performance. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; ability to recruit, train, and manage volunteers; experience in relating with people. Experience in planning, implementing, marketing, and evaluating educational programs preferred. Computer/computer software knowledge desired.
