Drillfield Roads Closing
Spectrum Volume 20 Issue 37 - July 30, 1998
A portion of the roads at the head of the Drillfield will be closed from August 3-14.
Utility lines will be placed in this vicinity as part of the construction of the AC/ITC building. The roads affected by this construction are Drillfield Drive between Alumni Mall and the intersection just prior to Patton Hall; and the road which runs from the head of the Drillfield (intersection of Drillfield Drive and Alumni Mall) towards McBryde Hall.
From August 3-5, Drillfield Drive will be closed, to include all the parking spaces. Traffic traveling around the Drillfield towards Burruss Hall will proceed north towards McBryde Hall and take then make an immediate left at the intersection between McBryde and Patton Halls (normally not allowed).
From August 6-14, the road which runs from the head of the Drillfield (intersection of Drillfield Drive and Alumni Mall) towards McBryde Hall will be closed to traffic traveling from the Drillfield towards McBryde Hall. Thus, traffic at the head of the Drillfield will only be permitted to proceed around the Drillfield.
The August 6-14 closing will also effect the Blacksburg Transit (BT) routes. The bus stops that are presently located on the road next to the AC/ITC site will be temporarily relocated along Drillfield Drive. Additionally, the bus stops located adjacent to the Military Building on Stanger Street will be closed during this period. BT customers are encouraged to use the Burruss Hall bus stop.
All BT changes are temporary and routes will return to normal when the construction is complete on August 14. The dates are subject to change based upon inclement weather or construction difficulties.
