Security increased at WMH
Spectrum Volume 21 Issue 03 - September 10, 1998
Effective this semester, everyone is required to present a special form of identification to enter War Memorial Hall after 5 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends.
Students and faculty and staff members may use their Hokie Passport. Retirees must present valid retiree identification. All others who are entitled to use the facility must register through the Office of Recreational Sports.
Registrants above the age of 15 will be issued a Hokie Recreation Passport by the Hokie Passport Office for a one-time $15 processing fee. Dependents 15 years and younger will continue to receive a laminated card for facility entry, provided they are under parental supervision at all times.
The new policy mainly affects alumni and spouses/dependents of faculty and staff members and students. Although many veteran users of War Memorial Hall are accustomed to using a laminated card, the Hokie Recreation Passport is expected to bring a new level of security to the facility.
The change in policy is a result of a new card-reader system in the facility. The increased security is expected to prevent misuse of the facility and provide additional security to patrons and children who participate in special instructional programs.
For more information, call the Department of Recreational Sports at 1-6856 or visit the office in 142 McComas.
