Hokies Abroad program outlined
Spectrum Volume 21 Issue 06 - October 1, 1998
The Hokies Abroad Program provides an opportunity to link faculty members traveling abroad to alumni who live outside the U.S.
In conjunction with and under the sponsorship of the Alumni Association, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, and the University Office of International Programs, the Hokies Abroad program encompasses the involvement of traveling faculty members in contacting Virginia Tech alumni abroad, promoting the university's interests, generating new international undergraduate enrollments, and building support for alumni relations world wide.
Faculty participants may be asked to make presentations, attend alumni-sponsored receptions, and to distribute current information on the university. They may also be asked to speak with interested international students.
The Alumni Association can provide up to $250 to any faculty member traveling abroad who hosts a reception for students and/or alumni.
Faculty members who are willing to assist in the program should notify the Alumni Association as early as possible--three months before the date of travel is optimal. The Alumni staff can then contact Tech alumni residing in these areas to arrange for meetings and/or discussions.
For more information, contact Lynn Young in Alumni Relations (e-mail at youngl@vt.edu) or call 1-4009.
Faculty members interested in taking information about international undergraduates applying to Virginia Tech as degree-seeking students, should contact Lee Drowne in Undergraduate Admissions at drowne@vt.edu or 1-9339.
