According to Early-Release Tables from the National Science Foundation, Virginia Tech is ranked 44th in total research-development expenditures at universities and colleges for fiscal year 1997.
Virginia Tech reported research expenditures of $169.8 million for the year ending June 30, 1997. Tech is the only Virginia university in the top 50. The data will be reported in more detail in the Research and Graduate Studies Report to the Faculty , to be published early next year.
