SERVING SOUTHEASTERN VIRGINIA AND NORTHEASTERN NORTH CAROLINA
: Friday, August 11, 1995
- CORRECTION/CLARIFICATION:
*****************************************************************
The 5th District Court of Appeal in Daytona, Fla. - a state
appeals court - on Wednesday overturned the murder conviction of
Thomas Smolka, the former Virginia Beach lawyer sentenced to life in
prison in Florida in 1993 for the murder of his wife, Betty Anne. A
story Friday erroneously said that a federal appeals court
overturned the conviction. Also, due to a technical error, in some
editions, three or four paragraphs of the story were duplicated.
Correction published Saturday, August 12, 1995 on page A2 of THE
VIRGINIAN-PILOT AND THE LEDGER-STAR.
