- CORRECTION/CLARIFICATION:
*****************************************************************
A story in Friday's MetroNews reported incorrectly that 51.1
percent of black and 21.7 percent of white sixth-graders failed all
three sections of Virginia's Literacy Passport Test this spring.
Those percentages actually refer to students who failed at least one
part of the test. Test results show that 48.9 percent of black and
78.3 percent of white sixth-graders passed all three sections of the
test. Also, of the 116,580 students taking the test, 35,998 - or
about 30 percent - were not sixth-graders. Of the 478 ``ungraded''
ninth- and 10th-graders who took all three parts of the test, 18.4
percent passed all three sections.
