CLARIFICATION
A finding by Child Protective Services that there was ``reason to
suspect'' John Smigielski had abused his daughter was overturned on
appeal and classified ``unfounded.''
A story in Wednesday's MetroNews section reported correctly that
all of CPS' ``reason to suspect'' findings have been ruled
unconstitutional and purged from the record, but it did not say that
the Smigielski finding was overturned before the constitutionality
ruling.
The story was about the upcoming trial of Smigielski's ex-wife,
Kathy, on charges of parental abduction.
Correction published in The Virginian-Pilot on Saturday, December
23, 1995, on page A2.
